Social Compliance Initiative Bangladesh Holds Annual Coalition Meeting

NUK joined fellow member organisations at the annual coalition meeting of the Social Compliance Initiative Bangladesh (SCIB), reviewing progress on shared labour, legal, and environmental compliance standards across the ready-made garment sector.

What SCIB does

SCIB, which NUK helped found, brings together NGOs, factory representatives, and labour advocates to coordinate compliance standards rather than leaving each organisation to negotiate separately with individual factories — extending the kind of factory-level work NUK pursues through its own Garment Worker Support Program across a much wider set of facilities.

This year's discussion

  • Shared standards for grievance mechanisms across member-affiliated factories.
  • Updates on training curricula for in-house compliance and HR officers.
  • Coordination with the Bangladesh Garment Workers Protection Alliance on overlapping advocacy priorities.
Coalitions like SCIB allow smaller compliance gains made within individual factory partnerships — such as NUK's long-running work with Anowara Group — to be documented and replicated more broadly across the sector.

Next steps

Member organisations agreed to continue developing shared monitoring tools, reducing duplication of compliance assessments across the sector.
