As part of its 25th anniversary, NUK convened a national workshop dedicated to sport as a tool for women's and girls' empowerment, drawing on years of research conducted in partnership with Women Win and the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG).
From research to policy
The workshop revisited the findings behind NUK's successful advocacy that led the Government of Bangladesh to approve gender training for female leadership positions across all 64 district sports offices, and to establish women's wings within national sports federations — outcomes detailed in NUK's Sports for Women's Empowerment program.
Voices from the field
Participants included coaches, federation officials, and young women who had taken part in NUK's self-defence and physical activity programming, offering first-hand perspective on what access to sport had changed in their own lives — from school attendance to confidence in public settings.
Next steps
Workshop participants discussed sustaining momentum at the federation level, including ongoing monitoring of whether women's wings are given genuine budget and decision-making authority rather than symbolic status.
