Anowara Group Social Compliance Project

At a glance: A long-running, factory-level compliance partnership that became a template for NUK's wider sector coalition work.

The starting problem

Anowara Group, a prominent ready-made garment manufacturer, needed to raise its social, legal, and environmental compliance standards to meet the requirements of major international buyers — a common challenge across Bangladesh's RMG sector, where compliance failures can mean lost contracts.

What the project involved

  • In-house training for compliance officers and HR staff embedded directly within Anowara Group's factories.
  • Joint development of grievance-handling procedures aligned with buyer expectations.
  • Connection to international corporate social responsibility programs through buyers sourcing from the group's factories.

An unexpected outcome

The partnership's success contributed directly to the "NUK and SOL's Friendship Project," formally inaugurated at Egarosindur Community Hospital with support from the Japanese Embassy and international buyer representatives — connecting factory-level compliance work to NUK's health infrastructure investment.

Where it stands now

The partnership continues, with periodic joint reviews of progress and ongoing contribution to sector-wide standards through the Social Compliance Initiative Bangladesh.
