Bangladesh Garment Workers Protection Alliance Hosts Factory Safety Roundtable

NUK joined a roundtable convened by the Bangladesh Garment Workers Protection Alliance (BGWPA), a network NUK helped establish to advance protections for garment workers across factories and supply chains.

Roundtable focus

Discussion centred on workplace safety standards and the effectiveness of existing worker grievance mechanisms — specifically, whether workers who raise safety concerns have functioning, retaliation-free channels to do so, a recurring theme in NUK's decades of factory-based programming.

Connecting research to practice

BGWPA roundtables regularly draw on case studies from member organisations' direct factory work, including NUK's experience through its Garment Worker Support Program and its long-running compliance partnership with Anowara Group.

BGWPA and the Social Compliance Initiative Bangladesh (SCIB) coordinate closely, with overlapping membership and shared advocacy priorities on factory-level compliance standards.

Outcomes

Participants agreed to share grievance-mechanism case studies across member organisations, aiming to identify which formats workers actually use versus those that exist only on paper.
